Bilan de l'état zoosanitaire des mollusques en Méditerranée française : 1988-2001 ArchiMer
Pichot, Yves.
The fact that molluscs from the Mediterranean have benefited from a privileged zoosanitary condition compared to those of the other French coasts has for a long time limited the control of farms and natural fields in this area. It is only in the early 70's, because of the pathological problems and risks observed in other areas that Mediterranean molluscs started to be stictly under zoosanitory control. This control was however limited until the early 90's. With the implementation of the European directives 91/67 and 95/70 for the protection of molluscs against diseases and their propagation, with the creation in 1992 of REPAMO- IFREMER (with a watch unit in the Mediterranean), the control of molluscs in the Mediterranean has considerably improved. Since...

Characteristics of the particulate matter during the Mai '92 experiment. Effect on ecophysiological functions on mussel and oyster populations. ArchiMer
Prou, Jean; Soletchnik, Patrick; Heral, Maurice; Geairon, Philippe; Razet, Daniel; Bougrier, Serge.
In order to complete the knowledge of seasonal variability of ecophysiological parameters, in situ experiment was conducted in May 1992 at the sampling site "Le Chapus". As in the previous experiments (May '91, October '91 and February '92), the race-way technique was used to study ecophysiological behavior of oyster and mussel populations submitted to natural variability.

Detection of Type 1 Ostreid Herpes variant (OsHV-1 mu var) with no associated mortality in French-origin Pacific cupped oyster Crassostrea gigas farmed in Italy ArchiMer

In April 2010, the sampling of juvenile Pacific cupped oysters originating from France was undertaken from a farm located off the coast of the Marche region in Italy. Samples were sent to the national reference laboratory for mollusc diseases for bacteriological, histological, electron microscopical and molecular analysis. Classical and Real-Time PCR indicated the presence of the microvariant (OsHV-1 mu var) of Type 1 Ostreid Herpes virus (OsHV-1) despite the absence of clinical and pathological signs normally associated with the presence of this variant. Further molecular and sequencing analysis revealed the presence of OsHV-1 par and OsHV-1 DNA in one oyster indicating that simultaneous detection of both viruses is possible. This is the first report of...

Les virus infectant les mollusques marins : un exemple d'actualité, les herpèsvirus ArchiMer
Renault, Tristan.
Although viruses have been associated with mortality outbreaks in different mollusc species, little information is available on their exact affiliation and taxonomic position. Herpes viruses have attracted particular attention because of their economic and ecological impact on both farmed and wild marine molluscs over the past 20 years. Investigations based on molecular approaches have been carried out on the herpes virus infecting Pacific oysters in France. Molecular and ultra-structural data were used to classify the virus under the name ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1), as the first known species in the family Malacoherpesviridae. Since 2008, massive mortality outbreaks were reported in several Crassostrea gigas oyster farms in France, Ireland, and the...

REseau MOllusques des Rendements Aquacoles huitre creuse (REMORA) ; Résultats des stations nationales. Année 1998 ArchiMer
Fleury, Pierre-gildas; Ruelle, Francois; Claude, Serge; Palvadeau, Hubert; Robert, Stephane; Vercelli, Catherine; Chabirand, Jean-michel; D'Amico, Florence.
The monitoring network IFREMER /REMORA is assessing on a yearly basis, from February to December, mortality, growth and quality criteria of two oyster batches ("juveniles" = one-year class ; and "adults" = two-years class), deployed among various stations of the main French oyster areas. This network is a tool for trend estimations (geographic and chronological, on the national scale) ; it must not be considered as an accurate estimation of professional oyster ongrowings. Based on REMORA results, generally tallied with professional observations, 1998 on the whole was a second year of low mortality. However several areas remained affected by significant mortalities : the baie des Veys (in Normandy), Morlaix and Pen-Bé (in Brittany) and Marennes (in...

Suppression substractive hybridisation (SSH) and real time PCR reveal differential gene expression in the Pacific cupped oyster, Crassostrea gigas, challenged with Ostreid herpesvirus 1 ArchiMer
Renault, Tristan; Faury, Nicole; Barbosa Solomieu, Valérie; Moreau, Kevin.
Virus-induced genes were identified using suppression subtractive hybridisation (SSH) from Pacific cupped oyster, Crassostrea gigas, haemocytes challenged by OsHV-1. A total of 304 clones from SSH forward library were sequenced. Among these sequences, some homologues corresponded to (i) immune related genes (macrophage express protein, IK cytokine, interferon-induced protein 44 or multicopper oxidase), (ii) apoptosis related genes (Bcl-2) and (iii) cell signalling and virus receptor genes (glypican). Molecular characterization and phylogenic analysis of 3 immune-related genes (macrophage expressed protein, multicopper oxidase and immunoglobulin domain cell adhesion molecule) were performed. Finally, quantitative PCR revealed significant changes in the...
